The future and the present: World premiere of Porsche concept car Mission E Cross Turismo in Geneva Auto ShowPorsche's two high-calibre driving concepts usher in global debut
Shanghai / Geneva. On March 6, Porsche made its presence known at the 88th Geneva International Auto Show with a number of blockbuster debuts. Startling cars with two Porsche's high-calibre driving concepts have been launched: The Mission E Cross Turismo, which represents Porsche’s future driving concept, and the strongest 911 GT model with naturally aspirated engine: the new 911 GT3 RS. The two models symbolize Porsche's pursuit of the ultimate driving experience. The Mission E Cross Turismo is the first Cross-Utility Vehicle (CUV) from Porsche, embodying Porsche‘s typical sports car design and advanced off-road features. The Mission E Cross Turismo delivers an output of 440 kW (600 hp) with 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 3.5 seconds. This performance is in addition to a continuous power level that is unprecedented among electric vehicles. It boasts a range of over 500 kilometres and the ability to recharge for a further 400 kilometres in just 15 minutes, making it suitable for everyday driving and practical use as a cross-utility off-road vehicle. Meanwhile, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS packs top-notch racetrack technology into a road-approved sports car. The 911 GT3 RS’s four-litre high speed naturally aspirated engine produces an output of 383 kW (520 hp) and can reach 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds with a maximum speed of 312km/h.
Mission E Cross Turismo: A high-performance electric vehicle designed for a healthy lifestyle
The Mission E Cross Turismo is an electrically-powered Cross-Utility Vehicle (CUV) targeted at people with an active lifestyle who like to spend their leisure time engaging in sport or other outdoor activities. ‘The Mission E Cross Turismo is an expression of how we envision the all-electric future. It combines sportiness and everyday practicality in unique style. Our vehicle will be fast to drive, but also quick to recharge and able to replicate its performance time after time,’ says Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG.
Mission E Cross Turismo builds on the concept of the Mission E electric sports car, with its synthesis of typically Porsche sports car design and off-road features, as well as creates an innovative display and operating concept with touchscreen and eye-tracking control. The Mission E Cross Turismo is just as suitable for everyday driving as it is for adventurous pursuits like mountain biking, surfing or winter sports. The Mission E Cross Turismo is ready for charging on the 800-volt fast-charge network, and can also be charged via induction, via a charging dock or via a Porsche home energy management system.
The design: Unmistakable Porsche DNA
The Mission E Cross Turismo clearly reveals the Porsche DNA: a low bonnet between powerfully curved wings and the vertical air intakes at the front, known as “air curtains”, provide one of the most striking design features, while matrix LED headlights represent another style highlight. Off-road design elements include the rugged wheel arches and door sills, the striking look of the front spoiler and rear apron, and the increased ground clearance. The silhouette is marked by the sporty roofline that tapers towards the rear – termed the “flyline” by the Porsche designers. This feature echoes the rear of the Panamera Sport Turismo. The broad wings and three-dimensional side walls with air outlets behind the front wheels reinforce the sporty crossover character of the 1.99-m-wide concept vehicle. Distinctive side skirts with an off-road look and 20-inch wheels with 275/40 R 20 tyres are among the vehicle's other defining features.
Versatility: Equipped for all mobility needs
Passengers benefit from the versatility of the 4.95-m-long and 1.42-m-high four-seater: A hatch is integrated into the backrests of the two individual seats in the rear, useful for loading items such as skis or other outdoor equipment. The backrests themselves can be folded down. In the luggage compartment, there is a rail system with adjustable and removable belts, allowing objects to be stowed quickly and securely. And away from the vehicle, Mission E Cross Turismo passengers also benefit from a versatile form of transport in the Porsche e-bike, which supports riders as they pedal with electric power from a high-performance electric drive. This mobility concept allows Porsche customers to continue enjoying the design, technology and performance of a Porsche during their leisure time spent on two wheels.
The interior: Lightweight structures
The interior delivers an entirely new interpretation of classic Porsche elements and carries them into the digital age. The dashboard has a clear horizontal arrangement with an ultra-wide display for the driver and front passenger. The designer elements in the interior also include visibly lightweight structures, such as the dashboard and the sporty seats reminiscent of bucket-type racing seats, which feature illuminated Porsche lettering. The door panels have innovative 3D elements with a structured surface. Anodised trims around components like the air vents or the window regulator modules in Nordic Blue provide a colourful contrast to the exclusive two-tone concept of the interior with Aniline leather in Black and Light Grey.
The Porsche powertrain: Sporty e-performance
Two permanently excited synchronized motors with a system output of over 600 hp (440 kW) accelerate the Mission E Cross Turismo to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and to 200 km/h in under 12 seconds. This performance is in addition to a continuous power level that is unprecedented among electric vehicles: multiple acceleration starts are possible in succession without loss of performance. The demand-controlled all-wheel drive with Porsche Torque Vectoring, which automatically distributes torque to the individual wheels, transfers the power to the road.
All-wheel steering contributes towards the exemplary agility and stability of this vehicle, while the adaptive air suspension allows an increased clearance of up to 50 millimetres. Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) is another of the features available on board. This system provides active roll stabilisation and prevents lateral inclination of the vehicle when cornering. It also reduces lateral instability on bumpy terrain.
The display and control concept: A unique user experience
A highlight of the Mission E Cross Turismo is a new display and control concept. Intuitive operation and information such as the head-up display optimally positioned in the driver’s field of vision do not distract the driver. And thanks to the new connectivity solutions, the vehicle can also be perfectly integrated into a digital lifestyle. The result is a highly unique user experience. In the Mission E Cross Turismo, the “Destinations App” demonstrates the additional benefits the digital platform may offer in the near future: Using this App, a weekend trip can be planned quickly and easily in just a few steps on a smartphone. The App suggests inspirational travel destinations, enables reservations to be made quickly and effortlessly, and handles route planning. The driver can even tailor the chassis of the Mission E Cross Turismo to the selected route via the “Destinations App”, as well as choosing the most suitable music, climate control and ambient lighting for the journey.
A clear focus on motorsport: The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS with powerful, road-approved naturally aspirated engine
The 911 GT3 RS builds on the concept of the 911 GT3, with the chassis derived directly from motorsport. Presenting Porsche’s most powerful, road-approved track sports car with a naturally aspirated engine. 911 GT3 RS. The six-cylinder flat engine with four-litre displacement produces an output of 383 kW (520 hp) with a speed range of up to 9,000 rpm. Combined with the specially calibrated seven-speed PDK, the high-performance engine guarantees an outstanding driving performance. Just like the engine at the heart of the new GT model, the chassis with rear axle steering, tuned for uncompromising precision, also comes directly from motorsport. Offering balanced power delivery across an extreme engine speed range, a lightweight body designed for optimum aerodynamic downforce and outstanding lateral dynamics, the new 911 GT3 RS is the ideal car for achieving the fastest lap times. For particularly ambitious drivers, the Porsche motorsport department has created an optional Weissach package for a further weight reduction. The package features additional carbon components for the chassis, interior and exterior, as well as optional magnesium wheels. In its lightest configuration, this package reduces the weight of the 911 GT3 RS down to 1,430 kilogrammes.
