718 Cayman GT4 RS

The signs show a storm is brewing. An emotional storm.
The aerodynamic concept of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS has been further refined compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 and the overall concept adapted to its enormous achievements: performance, aerodynamics, chassis and, of course, design. This is particularly evident on the fixed rear wing with swan-neck connection and on the rear diffuser. And not only guarantees huge downforce and high traction – but also a razor-sharp track tool look.

Vehicle shown with Weissach package and other optional equipment.

Porsche - Front diffuser for optimised aerodynamic balance.
Front diffuser for optimised aerodynamic balance.
The infinitely adjustable front diffuser improves the vehicle's aerodynamic balance and is designed for minimum air resistance to achieve maximum speed. In non-road-approved performance setting for race track use, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS achieves considerably more downforce compared to the 718 Cayman GT4, optimising the vehicle's stability, especially in fast corners. In short: the 'form follows function' principle at its very best.
Porsche - Bonnet with NACA air intakes.
Bonnet with NACA air intakes.
Persistently defying headwinds: the bonnet made of extremely light carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The NACA air intakes improve brake cooling – and make it clear to everyone that this is a sports car in its purest form.
Porsche - Wings made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).
Wings made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).
The upper openings in the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) wings, the so-called louvres, optimise the wheel arch ventilation, as does the redesigned front spoiler lip with sideblades that allow the flow of air from all sides. The result: a reduction in excess pressure in the wheel arch and thus more downforce.
Porsche - Air intakes instead of rear side windows.
Air intakes instead of rear side windows.
In the place of rear side windows, air intakes made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) painted in black are used. They increase the dynamic pressure of the airstream and also supply the engine with air. With the Weissach package, they are made in a carbon-weave finish and fitted with additional blades for a more targeted airflow.
Porsche - Large rear wing with swan-neck connection.
Large rear wing with swan-neck connection.
Extremely eye-catching: the fixed rear wing made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Thanks to the swan-neck connection from above, air flows over the entire surface of the underside of the wing, without any interference. It can also be set manually for race track use. The result: reduced loss of downforce and improved traction.
Porsche - Large spoiler.
Large spoiler.
The characteristic, further enlarged rear spoiler of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS produces maximum downforce. At its centre: a third integrated brake light.
Porsche - Tested on the rig and the track: the Weissach package.
Tested on the rig and the track: the Weissach package.
Consistent use of carbon-weave finish and geometric optimisation of the upper side air intakes for an even better supply of air. Inside: a titanium roll cage and extensive Race-Tex features. Emotional signature: the embroidered Weissach package logo on the headrests and the badge on the dashboard trim.

718 Cayman GT4 RS

718 Cayman GT4 RS

Its heart beats at its centre. As you can feel – and hear.
Flacht. Birthplace and home of Porsche race cars, located at the southern end of the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach. Here, we continuously develop, test and improve our vehicles – for the one tenth of a second that can make all the difference on the race track. The engine of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS also originates from here. The low centre of gravity of the mid-mounted engine that is characteristic of the 718 models guarantees dynamic cornering and outstanding performance.

Vehicle shown with Weissach package and other optional equipment.

4.0-litre six-cylinder horizontally opposed naturally aspirated engine.

An engine with a high-speed concept, directly derived from the 911 GT3 R and 911 RSR: with a maximum output of 368kW (500PS) at 8,400 1/min and a maximum torque of 450Nm at 6,750 1/min, the centrally positioned 4.0-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine is by far the most powerful in the 718 model range.

Tested on the race track.

Six individual throttle valves optimally supply each of the six cylinders with air, producing an extremely direct response and providing the engine with optimum ventilation. Thanks to the central oil feed, forged pistons and lightweight titanium piston rods, it is not only efficient, but also extremely robust.

Suitable for motorsport.

The development of the engine is inspired by the race track. The rigid valve train and dry-sump lubrication with separate oil tank have already proven their worth in the 911 GT3. The dual-mass flywheel comes from the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Porsche - Interior airbox with new, improved air filter.
Interior airbox with new, improved air filter.
Technical highlight, visual treat and acoustic delight: the black plastic airbox with a silver-coloured 'GT4 RS' logo and newly developed air filter, which has been moved to the interior. It not only makes sure that the engine is optimally supplied with fresh air – it also provides a thoroughbred sound.
Porsche - From irrational to perfect in hundredths of a second.
From irrational to perfect in hundredths of a second.
Outstanding agility, short shift throws, extremely sporty gears – the 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). Even seventh gear is sporty and succinct. The design of the PDK gear selector is based on a manual gear lever and also allows manual gear changes. For even more succinct gear changes, simply use the gearshift paddles directly on the steering wheel. The mechanical lockable differential ensures optimum transfer of power to the road.
Porsche - Lightweight construction.
Lightweight construction.
To ensure even greater performance, anything that was unnecessary has been removed. Or replaced by lighter materials: the bonnet, front wings, side air intakes, rear wing, decorative trims and full bucket seats are made from lightweight, durable carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). While the rear screen is made of lightweight glass and also saves weight.
Porsche - Titanium roll cage.
Titanium roll cage.
Available in the optional Weissach package: the bolted roll cage made of lightweight yet robust titanium. It is around 6kg lighter than the steel roll cage in the Clubsport package.
Porsche - 100% performance at around 1,400kg.
100% performance at around 1,400kg.
Lighter. Even lighter. Closer to perfection. This was the principal that our engineers adopted when designing the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The result: pure performance with a unladen weight of just 1,415kg.
Porsche - GT technology for the chassis.
GT technology for the chassis.
A unique, race track-optimised combination of motorsport-tested chassis components. The lightweight spring-strut axles follow the design principle of the 911 GT3 RS (991 II). Rigid springs in combination with motorsport-typical helper springs and specific wheel mounts ensure excellent traction and stability. Ball joints enable extremely precise wheel control. The height, camber, toe angle and anti-roll bars can be adjusted individually for the race track.

Chassis and control systems.

Chassis.

Spring rates and damping system calibration follow the principles of the 911 GT3 RS (991 II). New shock-absorber technology and more rigid springs in conjunction with typical motorsport helper springs are used at both the front and rear. The result: a race track chassis delivering excellent cornering dynamics, spontaneous steering and thus higher cornering speeds.

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM, –30mm).

The electronic adjustment of the shock absorber system actively and continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on current road conditions and driving style. PASM has two settings: sport/comfortable and sport/firm.

Porsche Stability Management (PSM).

PSM is an automatic control system for maintaining stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance. The systems can be completely switched off in two stages. For intentionally sporty handling on the race track.

Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV).

In short: PTV improves the driving dynamics. In detail: the integrated mechanical rear differential lock enables higher traction and lateral dynamics as well as significantly improved vehicle stability during load changes in corners and when changing lane.

Front-axle lift system.

30mm may not sound like a lot, but makes all the difference at speeds of up to around 37 mph, thanks to increased ground clearance. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is the first model in the range to be fitted with a front-axle lift system.

Brakes.

The six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front, four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the rear, all finished in red, and cast-iron and aluminium composite brake discs with an extremely large diameter of 408mm at the front and 380mm at the rear ensure rapid, secure braking – even under high loads, thanks to the newly developed brake cooling.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).

The optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) with a diameter of 410mm at the front and 390mm at the rear provides excellent braking performance and enables constant braking pressure. Another benefit: the brake discs are approximately 50% lighter than cast-iron brake discs of a similar design and size. The brake calipers are available in yellow as standard and optionally in black (high-gloss).
