The story of the New York-based fashion brand, Aimé Leon Dore, and its exciting Porsche restoration projects
Everyone who loves cars has probably thought about their own dream restoration at some point. What you would do if you could take a car and put your own spin on it, using time-honoured processes, the best materials and quality components? Relatively few are able to carry through with that dream, but sometimes that passion – especially when it’s for a brand like Porsche – is just too strong to resist. Just ask Teddy Santis.Since 2014, Aimé Leon Dore, the New York-based fashion and lifestyle brand that Teddy founded and is the creative director of, has made waves with its range of classic apparel, informed by street culture, and delivered with contemporary flair. In 2020, Aimé Leon Dore unveiled the first of its collaborations with Porsche, which has seen the two companies restore one-off classic Porsche sportscars in inimitable style. In doing so, it highlighted a shared philosophy for the highest quality of craftsmanship, attention to detail and understated, elegant style.Find out more about these exciting creations, including the brand new Aimé Leon Dore and Porsche collaboration.2020 • Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 911 Carrera 4 (type 964) Resplendent in the same shade of white seen on the front of Aimé Leon Dore’s flagship store in Manhattan, Teddy Santis and Porsche set a template for their future collabs with this take on the 964. A subtle yet striking one-off restoration of a 964 Carrera 4, it was the product of months of research by Teddy, which included visits to the Porsche Museum and 911 assembly line in Stuttgart.Unsurprisingly for a luxury fashion and lifestyle brand with a reputation for creating a look and feel that’s clean, classic yet bold, its interior garnered lots of attention. The fully custom interior features Schott sunflower leather and Loro Piana houndstooth. The rich leather covers dashboard, steering wheel and door panels, while the headliner and sunroof is in corresponding suede. The leather and houndstooth seats, meanwhile, were made at the RECARO workshop in Germany. On the outside, its brilliant white paint acts as an appropriate canvas for intriguing details. These include the Pegasus logo (a feature of many classic Porsche racecars) and a custom-designed badge on the rear grille. Its set just above the rear ducktail, which is in turn a nod to the iconic 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The Aimé Leon Dore Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a passionate homage to the brand, and one that has set the tone for the collaboration cars to follow.2021 • Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 911 SC In its six-year lifetime, from 1978 to 1983, the 911 SC was just one of two models of the 911 that Porsche had on sale (the other was the 911 Turbo). Its brawny good looks wowed a young Teddy Santis. His take on the 911 SC is, in part, a reflection of his love for the way that products age and change over time.Again, subtle details and classic touches are at play in the 911 SC, beginning with the much-loved Porsche exterior colour of Olive. Its roof rack piled with personal items and bonnet-mounted auxiliary lights were additions inspired by Teddy’s childhood vacations in the Greek islands. Classic Fuchs rims finish off the look. Inside the Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 911 SC, Persian carpets are used as floor mats and in sections of its door panels while RECARO once again was involved in restoring the seats, this time in tactile, crème-coloured bouclé and leather. With all the materials processed by hand, this special 911 SC is a stunning showcase for a collaboration where a shared vision of the values of true craftsmanship are at the forefront.2023 • Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 356 B The third instalment of the burgeoning partnership between Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore went back to where it all began for Porsche – the 356. In Teddy’s hands, the 1960 356 B donor car is treated to a makeover that is full of delightful touches and serves as an intriguing reimagining of the original Porsche sportscar. In side profile, the clearest amend to the original car’s design can be seen in the decision to remove the bumpers, front and rear. It instantly enhances even further the already sleek, streamlined look of the 356. The addition of brushed aluminium alloy wheels and white wall tyres and Midnight Blue paint further boost the feeling of opulence and post-war chic. It’s a theme continued inside too with Midnight Blue leather seats and tartan centre sections and backrests and floor mats in alpaca leather. And, both inside and out, there are touches seen on the prior collaborations, including fog lights and specially designed grille badges.2024 • Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 993 TurboWith their latest – and fourth – official collaboration, Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore have turned to a sportscar that first wowed the public three decades ago in the shape of the legendary 993 Turbo. With their meticulous collaborative approach, the two brands have created a timeless, elegant restoration that captures the excitement of this groundbreaking sportscar. The 993 Turbo model used is finished in Mulberry Green – a colour that has been developed by Aimé Leon Dore over the years and is now a signature colour of the brand. But this is more than a mere visual transformation, with several significant technical upgrades added too. These include the installation of the exhaust and front splitter and ‘whale tail’ rear wing from the 993 Turbo S – additions that don’t just enhance the car’s dynamic performance but also showcase an aggressive edge to the overall design. The exterior look is completed by 18-inch Porsche Turbo Twist Rims painted in matching Mulberry Green with a gold accent and fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tyres. Sophistication abounds inside the Porsche x Aimé Leon Dore 993 Turbo, characterised by dark brown leather, lambswool accents and hardback seats. Its monochromatic aesthetic is extended to dark brown carpets, floor mats and seats as well as its instrument cluster. The steering wheel and seat headrests, meanwhile, feature a custom Porsche and Aimé Leon Dore logo. And the intriguing details and touches that helped make previous collaborations so special aren’t forgotten in the 993 Turbo either. Features include a custom gold Unisphere gear knob – the Unisphere is the iconic globe that’s a symbol of Queens, the New York City borough in which Aimé Leon Dore was founded – and door sills featuring the phrase ’A team from outta Queens with the American dream’. There’s even a corresponding clothing capsule collection, called 993 Aimé, that will be launched in conjunction with the reveal of the car.
