See the Porsche highlights from a spectacular weekend of ice racing at Zell am See, Austria

This weekend, Zell am See in Austria played host again to the F.A.T. Ice Race (you can read more about its history at the bottom of the article). From Skijöring to drifting, classic cars to dance parties, the F.A.T. Ice Race continues to be one of the most iconic events on the motorsport calendar. We were there to capture all the Porsche action.

The F.A.T. Ice Race 2025

The F.A.T. Ice Race was revived in 2019 after a 45-year absence, originally running since 1952 in its current home of Zell am See. But the heritage of those days lives on, with cars like the Porsche 550 Spyder adding some much-loved nostalgia to the day.

Doing what it does best – the Porsche 911 Dakar plays in the snow at the 2025 F.A.T. Ice Race. Inspired by the legendary 911 Carrera 3.2 4x4 that won the Paris-Dakar rally in 1984, the 911 Dakar is just as adept off road as it is on.

A Porsche 959 Evolution drifts through the corners at the F.A.T. Ice Race. This particular example belongs to Porsche specialist Robert Sikkens Racing. With four-wheel drive and twin turbochargers, the 959 was an especially good rally car.

Skijoring is the art of skiing behind cars – and Porsche has a long history with the sport, stretching back to the original days of the ice race. This year, this snowboarder hitched a ride with a legendary 911 SC rally car.

A taxi with a difference. At the F.A.T. Ice Race, classic Porsche mix with modern masterpieces – and this year, the Porsche Taycan proved its prowess on the ice track, taking fans on taxi rides around the icy track.

Culture and community is at the heart of the F.A.T. Ice Race and fans travel from far and wide to enjoy this unique winter festival of fun in the heart of the Austrian Alps.

The F.A.T. Turbo Express – aka the Porsche Dauer 962 LM – which won the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1994. The F.A.T. International brand was a logistics company that was the main sponsor of this car, and the name was revived to become the F.A.T. Ice Race.

One of the biggest draws for fans – aside from the spectacular scenery – is the chance to get up close to modern and classic Porsche cars. Here, an all-electric Porsche Taycan drifts past fans on the ice track.

A Porsche 996 GT3 with racing livery drifts through a curve at the F.A.T. Ice Race. With loads of traction at the rear, the GT3 is just as epic on snow as it is on the road.

Resplendent in green. A classic Porsche 911S cruises past the camera at the F.A.T. Ice Race. In the early 1970s, the S was the top 911 variant, featuring a 2.4-litre engine that gave it incredible performance for that era.

Porsche fans enjoy bluebird days of sunny skies and snowy tracks at the F.A.T. Ice Race 2025. The weekend schedule includes a Friday night disco, race action followed by a DJ party on Saturday, and then a day of skiing and apres-ski on Sunday.
