At Dubai’s Solar Park, multi-billion streaming music producer and DJ David Guetta stars in Speed of Light, an electrifying film about the Macan Electric and Taycan sportscars
In arid desert, 50km south of Dubai, something spectacular awaits – the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. A vast field of solar mirrors, with a huge solar power tower soaring into the sky at its centre, it’s the largest single-site solar park in the world. The Solar Park’s purpose is to create clean, sustainable power on a massive scale. Which makes it the perfect setting for the two electric sportscar model ranges in the Porsche family – the Taycan and Macan Electric – to meet up and put on a show. And a show that also features a very special guest in the shape of DJ and producer David Guetta, one of the biggest names in electronic music.Speed of Light was produced by Porsche Middle East and Africa and was shot over several days – and nights – in Dubai, although the preparation of a film with such an ambitious approach took several months of planning. “I think it’s possibly one of the most complicated jobs any of us has ever done,” says the film’s director Kit Lynch-Robinson, of Hochkant Film.A Porsche Macan Turbo Electric and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package at the Dubai Solar Park. So, it was a perfect match.”Why David Guetta and the all-electric Porsche sportscars were the perfect matchThe winner of two Grammys, a host of global number ones and with over 40 billion global streams and 50 million records sold worldwide, David Guetta is one of the biggest stars in popular music. For David, becoming involved in the Speed of Light film was a dream come true. “It’s one of the things that you dream of, since you were a kid,” says David. “Porsche has always stood for emotion, performance, and pushing the limits, just like my music. It’s about evolution while staying true to your roots, and being part of this project has truly inspired me.”With an admiring eye on the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, he draws comparison with Porsche design and what he likes to create with his music. “From day one, it has something that is timeless and yet so modern at the same time. Perched on a balcony towards the top of the tower at the Dubai Solar Park, global superstar DJ David Guetta took to the decks and controlled lasers lighting up the cars below for a special Porsche film Photo: PorscheAnd it is one of David’s best-known and enduring tracks – a remix of his global smash hit, Titanium – that plays throughout the film. Powerful, emotive and fizzing with energy, it’s an ideal soundtrack for the two four-wheeled stars of the film.“In the same way [as the Taycan and Macan], when I make music, I try to be at the edge of what's hot right now – but the foundation of the song is timeless,” explains David. “Titanium is a beautiful, timeless composition. That song was made 10 years ago and still being played at all the parties. I feel like the remix fits these cars – super modern, but at the same time it’s a classic song.”What is the Dubai Solar Park? The lead venue for Speed of Light was the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, situated south of Dubai. Built across several phases, the first phase of which became operational in 2013, it is the largest single-site solar park on Earth. Covering 127 square kilometres of desert – an area more than twice the size of Manhattan. Its fourth phase installed 70,000 mirrors that constantly adjust their angles to follow the sun, focusing its rays to the top of a 263 metre-high tower. It was on a balcony just below its summit that David Guetta performed his music from what has to be one of the highest DJ booths ever created.Meanwhile, the driving sections of the film were recorded at a closed airfield in Dubai. It was here, on the runway, that the two precision drivers, Joseph Hopkins and Timothy Marshall-Rowe, were able to unleash the formidable power of the two Porsche electric sportscars – the Macan Turbo Electric and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. Lit up by a huge array of lasers, it made for a spectacular and eye-popping demonstration of the capabilities of Porsche electric vehicles. Two precision drivers drove the Macan and Taycan at high speeds on a closed airfield for the spectacular driving sections of the film, the cars lit up by a complex matrix of lasers Photo: PorscheThe Porsche Taycan and Macan: two cars, shining in DubaiThere are now two Porsche electric sportscars in the model range. As well as the Taycan, first launched as a saloon in 2019, and later joined by the Taycan Sport Turismo and Taycan Cross Turismo, are the new Macan Electric models. The Speed of Light film features two Turbo models – the Macan Turbo Electric and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package is the most powerful production Porsche ever made (as of March 2025). It’s capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.2 seconds using Launch Control, with an overboost maximum power of 1034 PS, and can hit a top speed of 305 km/h (190mph).The Macan Turbo Electric, like the rest of the Macan Electric range, has been designed to be the sportiest model in its segment. The Macan Turbo Electric can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds with Launch Control enabled and can hit a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph). Both cars display their sportscar credentials and Porsche heritage boldly. That means outstanding performance and supreme handling – something that the professional precision drivers in the two cars were tasked with representing on film. And that they most certainly did, resulting in adrenaline-fuelled, high-speed footage that will take your breath away.“I think its lines are really, really beautiful,” says David Guetta of the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. “It's probably my favourite Porsche car right now. I love that it’s electric and super powerful” Photo: Porsche“99 per cent of the electric vehicles that I’ve driven are too intrusive when it comes to their traction systems,” says precision driver Joseph Hopkins. “But the Porsche lets you have everything on. So for a driver, it’s just the best car.”Porsche: fast forward to the futureThe finished film is an astonishing display of technical and artistic accomplishment put together by a team of talented professionals dedicated to creating something special. As an enthusiastic David Guetta says about the importance of balancing timelessness with the need to constantly look forward, Speed of Light acts as a fitting tribute to the outstanding electric-powered performance and impactful design of Porsche electric sportscars.
