With a surreal artistic style that’s uniquely hers, Akiko Stehrenberger blends painting, computers, and traditional graphic design to create era defying compositions of visual art.
Old and new are blended again here, in this new series commissioned by Porsche. Each piece conveying the heritage and timelessness of Porsche cars. Below Stehrenberger puts in her own words the inspiration behind the collection, and gives insight into her creative process.“My artistic style is heavily dependent on my concept and constantly changes/adapts to what I feel best works for each assignment. I’m an art director first and foremost, an illustrator second. My versatility in painting techniques can almost communicate just as much as the concept does and is rarely random.”In these pieces she takes inspiration from 75 years of Porsche history, bringing past and present together for a celebratory lap.“I watered down acrylic so it had a watercolor effect. I love the happy accidents of this look to offset the mechanical parts of each vehicle. I felt this look would also aide in giving us a simplified mountain speedway that can also read as a cake.”
With the 75th anniversary of Porsche, conceptually I wanted to show the past and the present, but also have them meet and reflect each other as they're speeding past each other.
“I ran with an opportunity to create artwork unexpected from what we usually see for automobile advertisements. I wanted to do something less technical and more free and spontaneous in its tone.” “With Porsche’s 75th Anniversary, it made sense to use the first Porsche sports car, the 356, from 1948, and the newest Taycan. Since Porsche is synonymous with racing, the feeling of speed in addition to a historic 75 year span, was a big inspiration for the pieces.”For more of Akiko Stehrenberger’s work, follow her on Instagram at @doyrivative.
