Memories of childhood often influence the work of artists. Sometimes this influence is subtle. Sometimes it’s barely perceptible at all. But not for artist Lyne Lucien.
Bursting with color and a playful sensibility, Lucien’s work is brimming with childlike imagination. In her new series of work commissioned by Porsche, this youthful energy is palpable. “My style reflects my upbringing in Haiti, which was very colorful and natural,” says Lucien. “I love whimsical moments of joy and I try to incorporate elements of nostalgia to capture the sentiment that I feel about my childhood.” Explore more of Lucien’s work below and learn about the ways in which her childhood, home and heritage have continued to inspire her to this day.Haitian Sensation“My inspiration for this piece was the street performance processions in Haiti called Rara. These performances would bring joy to the community. I wanted performance to be a small focal point as I wanted to communicate the beauty of Haiti’s landscape. Mainly, I wanted to show the people as they are, embedded in an amplified, whimsical recollection of how I remember Haiti. The energy was always so magnetic, vibrant and supportive. As a fast and powerful car, I think the 911 Dakar captures that energy.”

Dollworld Diaries“I have three sisters and when we grew up in Haiti, we often played with many kinds of dolls. This illustration is a depiction of a world I imagined that my dolls would inhabit: a whimsical surrealist utopia, where the dolls live amongst animals and roam free as they do. They are living with joy! I chose the Porsche model 718 Style Edition because I wanted a fun, chic, and stylish car that didn’t have a top. I wanted the car to stand out but naturally coexist in this world.”

Garden Safari“Growing up, my mother always had a bustling garden no matter where we were in the world. My inspiration for the Garden Safari was my mother’s garden. It would be a whimsical botanical garden grown in the wild; a garden open to everyone. I chose the Porsche Taycan for my garden world as it is the most sustainable car that Porsche offers. I think that Taycan is also super beautiful! It reminded me of a flower that grows on a lily pad.”
